Tightening Immigration Policy
September 18, 2024, Immigration minister announced that they will impose some criteria in the temporary immigration which will impact a lot in the coming days.
- More reduction in Study permit in 2025.
- English language requirement in PGWP application.
- 3 years PGWP will be limited to studies related to long term labor shortage occupation.
- Masters and PHD programs will no longer be CAP exempted from 2025, They also need PAL.
- Course duration of Master program minimum 16 months is required for Spousal work permit application.

New measure to support skilled temporary workers in Manitoba
Today, the Honourable Marc Miller, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, announced that Immigration, Refugee and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has approved Manitoba’s request to extend temporary resident status for potential nominees identified under the province’s Provincial Nominee Program who have work permits that will expire in 2024. These individuals are mainly post-graduation work permit holders who are currently in the Manitoba Skilled Worker Provincial Nominee Program Expression of Interest pool. These skilled workers are filling key job vacancies in Manitoba, and actively contributing to the province’s economy and diverse cultural fabric.

Work hours for international students.
The Honorable Marc Miller, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, announced on April 29, 2024 that the temporary policy allowing students to work more than 20 hours per week off campus will come to an end on April 30, 2024, and it will not be extended. This fall, Government intend to change the number of hours students may work off campus per week to 24 hours.
